A hOUSE FOR ARTIST’S 24 HOURS
This project is to design an artist's summer house in Jeju Island in South Korea, which is the nation's largest island and has popular tourist attractions. In recent years, Jeju Province has become a popular destination for commercial and residential developers. The main focus is to provide a place of retreat and refreshing work environment. We started with a primitive volume surrounded by the garden and natural field. This house represents a balance of nature and domesticity, between open environment and private program. The interior space of the house is composed of 4 spaces to accommodate domestic programs but the division is not complete isolation. All these spaces are connected by the perimeter circulation, allowing a relation with the environment. The work area has a window, up to roof, and the abundant natural light from the window is shared by the unique geometry of partitions. The garden features the landscape windbreak, walls of trees to block prevailing wind in the island. Shaved trees and wild flowers were introduced to make this house a shelter for imagining.
